 ABOUT US

Who Are We?

Solas Wellbeing is a charity established in 2010, by members of the local community who were concerned about the rising rate of suicide in the Moyle area.

The founding volunteers have worked tirelessly to create a supportive and caring organisation, reaching out to support the health and wellbeing of everyone within the local community.

Over the past few years, the organisation has developed considerably, both in terms of the support available and the leadership and management.

Management

Solas Wellbeing is managed and governed by a team of voluntary committee members, who work hard to ensure the organisation adheres to the governance standards set by the Charity Commission of Northern Ireland. These individuals bring a wide range of skills and experience to ensure effective leadership, including mental health, business, finance, local government as well as the vital members representatives.

Our day-to-day operations are managed by a small team of people, two of whom are employees and two are founding volunteers. Click here to meet our team.

Service Delivery

Our services are delivered by a team of people, both volunteers and sessional workers, who believe in the ethos of the organisation and are compassionate in their approach. Anyone visiting or contacting Solas can be assured of a warm and friendly welcome, coupled with the upmost discretion.

Funding

As with most charities, we rely on the generosity of people from our local community and our members to raise funds to support our work. Our current funding arrangements support the running costs of our organisation, staffing & volunteers costs plus contribute towards our programme costs. Due to the demand, we have a funding shortfall for our one to one sessions and donations and fundraising is targeted towards securing additional funds for counselling and complementary therapies.

All of our services are offered free of charge, to ensure our support is available to anyone who would benefit. We are currently finishing our final year of a four year funding award from the Big Lottery Fund People and Communities. We also have recently completed programme grants from the Public Health Agency and Everybody Active.

In addition, we have secured funding for activities during the Covid pandemic from the Causeway Coast & Glens Council and Community Foundation and the The Community Foundation NI New Needs Fund.
